Wilson
Charles (Kenny) Wilson, 69, of 557 Schaum avenue, retired assistant fire chief, died at 6:45 a.m. Monday in Good Samaritan Medical where he was a patient since Dec. 6. He had been in failing health three months.
A life resident of Zanesville, he was born May 1, 1906.
Mr. Wilson joined Zanesville Fire Department in June 1941 and was one of its first “Kelly men,” serving at the Abington, Putnam and Central stations when “regulars” had a day off. Later he drove the Central Station pumper and hook and ladder trucks. He was named assistant fire chief in Nov. 1958.
He also headed the department fire prevention bureau and was a frequent speaker at club meetings. He was appointed Zanesville civil defense director in 1964. He retired in Dec. 1971.
He was a member of the First Christian Church of Disciples, LaFayette Lodge 79 F&AM, Amrou Grotto and the Retired Fireman’s Association.
Surviving are his widow, the former Mary Frances Starkey of Glenford; a son, Richard Kenneth of Elk Rapids, Mich.; and four grandchildren.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at Bolin Funeral Home on Blue avenue, where LaFayette Lodge will hold services at 7 p.m.
Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
