James Clendenen to William Sherwood
Filed for record August 23rd A.D. 1831. Recorded Sept 26th 1831.
Know all men by these presents that we James Clendenen and Charlotta Clendenen wife of the said James Clendenen of the County of Morgan and State of Ohio for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred dollars lawful money of the United States to us in hand paid by William Sherwood of the County and State aforesaid the receipt whereof we hereby acknowledge and are therewith contented and satisfied have given granted bargained sold aliened and conveyed and confirmed and by these presents do freely fully and absolutely give grant bargain sell alien convey and confirm unto the said William Sherwood his heirs and assigns forever a certain Lot of land situated and lying in the Town of Malta County and State aforesaid conveyed by Simeon Pool by deed to Jonathan McMullin and from said McMullin by deed to Thomas Nichols and from said Nichols by deed to Samuel Hammitt and from said Hammett by deed to James Clendenen being on the Town plot of the aforesaid Town of Malta number sixty seven and laying fronting on Centre street in the aforesaid Town which is layed out on West Fraction of Section No. 10 Town No. 10 of Range No. 12 of lands sold at Zanesville, containing one fifth part of an acre be the same more or less: To have and to hold the said granted and bargained premises with all the appurtenances and priveliges and commodities to the same belonging or in any wise appertaining to the said William Sherwood his heirs and assigns forever to his own proper use benefit and behoof forever, as a good perfect and absolute estate in fee simple. And we the said James Clendenen and Charlottea Clendenen wife of James Clendenen do for ourselves our heirs executors and administrators warrant with the said William Sherwood his heirs and assigns, that before and until the sealing and delivery of these presents, that we are lawfully seized in fee of the above granted and bargained premises and appurtenances , that we have good right full power and lawful authority in us to sell and convey the same to the said William Sherwood his heirs and assigns forever and that the said premises are free from all former gifts, grants, or other encumbrances whatever, and that we do and will forever warrant and defend the same to the said William Sherwood his heirs and assigns forever against the lawful claims or demands of all and every person or persons whomsoever.

The State of Ohio Morgan County.
I Francis A. Barker an acting Justice of the peace in and for the County aforesaid, do hereby certify that on this 19th day of August A. D. 1831 personally appeared before me the within named James Clendenen, the signee and Sealer of the within deed of conveyance and acknowledged the same and the signing and sealing thereof to be his voluntary act and deed. And at the same time personally appeared before me Charlottia Clendenen wife of James Clendenen also signer and sealer of the within deed and she the said Charlottia Clendenen being examined by me separate and apart from her said husband and the Contents of the said deed being made known to her by me she the said Charlottia Cleneenen on said examination did acknowledge and declare that she voluntarily and of her own free will and accord and without fear or coercion of her husband did and now doth acknowledge the signing and sealing thereof. Given under my and officially the day and date above written.
