MRS. JOS. SHROYER DIES NEAR PORTAGE
Mrs. Joseph Shroyer passed away at her home 3 1/2 miles east of Portage at 9:30 Thursday morning, March 30th, after a lingering illness of five months with complications.
Mrs. Shroyer was born April 30th 1865, being 68 years, 11 months of age at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Mrs. Joseph Shroyer, March 4th, 1883. Her maiden name was Elizabeth Ann Kyser. To this union were born four children: Mrs. Byron Hall (nee) Elsie Amelia, west of Bowling Green: Pearl May Gallier of Toledo; William Riley Shroyer at the old home place; Mrs. Frank VanVorhis (nee) Ina Laverque, west of Portage Center. One stepson, James Shroyer of Detroit, Mich., 19 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Emma Rutter of Weston, One brother, James Kyser of Hensler, North Dakota; and a host of friends mourn her departure.
Hers was the first death of the family circle of 50 years of wedded life, there being three generations without a death. She was kind and patient during her long illness and said not a word of complaint and appreciated all that her children did for her while on her sick bed. She was a kind and thoughtful friend to all she came in contact with, helping in the many homes about her where sickness was and help needed.
Mrs. Shroyer leaves her husband, Joseph Shroyer, who passed his 81st birthday Feb. 2nd. Mrs. Shroyer will be greatly missed by all her children and friends whom she numbered by the score.
She attended church at Cloverdale when able to do so.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the Cloverdale church with burial at the Portage cemetery.
