Lancaster County, Virginia will book 16:123-124; 6 September 1760. Recorded 20 February 1761
In the Name of God Amen I Catherine Brent of the County of Lancaster being sick and weak in Body but of sound Mind and Disposing Memory do make this my Last Will and Testament in Manner and form following Imprimis I Bequeath my Soul to God who gave it me and my body to the Earth from whence it was taken to be interred in a Christian like Manner by my Exors hereafter mentioned and what Temporal Estate it hath pleased Almighty God to bless me with I give and bequeath as followeth
Item I give to my son Hugh Brent my Negro wench Alice and her Increase & my Negro fellow Dick now in the possession of Jeremiah Carter. My Negro boy Robin A Chest of ____ & the great looking glass __ ____ ____ ____ ____ & the choice of the ___ ____
Item I lend to Mr Anthony Kirk and my Daughter Sarah my Negro wench Moll and my Negro ___ _____ ____ ___ ____ during both their Natural Lives and then bequeath them to be Equally Divided amongst their children begotten by each other
Item I give to my Daughter Sarah my poplar square table five batoned Chairs, a large Iron pot a large Earthen pote and a large Pewter Dish
Item I Lend to Mr William Stamps and my Daughter Elinor my Negro fellow George and my Negro wench Sarah During both their Natural Lives and then I Bequeath them to their Children begotten by Eash other and to be Equally Divided amongst them
Item I do bequeath to my Daughter Behethlan my my Negro Wench Lethy and my Negro Girl Judy and my negro girl Nan, the best bed and its furniture a small bed and Bro__ks ___ ___and a _iggin a Desk, half a Dozen flagd chairs, a Oval Table r knives and six forks, Box Iron and ___ and a frying pan two Dishes, a Dozen of plates, a bason, half a Dozen Spoons, a ____ hook and ___ a bell mettle, shillch a Brass, Candle wicks a _____ winding blades, and all the earthen Ware in the house looking glass, half a Dozen sheep and a third part of the cattle and hogs
Item I lend to Mr John Curd and my Daughter Lucy my negro girl Mary and Negro boy Jesse During both their Natural lives and I bequeath them to be Equally Divided among their children begotten by Each other
Item I give my Daughter Lucy a iron bason and half a Doz new plates
Item I bequeath to my son John my Mollatoe boy Henry and Negro boy Sam a bed and furniture and Money to pay for a lot of books Item I bequeath to my sons Willoughby and Stockly my Negro fellow William negros ___ Jonny and her increase ___ ___ ____ ____ to be Equally Divided ____my son Willoughby shall ____ ____ ____ ____
Item I give to my son Willoughby a bed and furniture and a third part of the stock
Item I give to my son Stockly a bed and furniture and a third part of the stock Besides a heifer and a hog of about one ____ and pigs
Item My Will is that my crop that is now on the ground and my two horses be sold and the money to be laid out Equally for the use of my two youngest sons when them arrive to the age of twenty one likewise one thousand pound of Tobacco due from Mr Hunton and four hundred from Mr Carter to be laid out in the same manner and for the same use
Item I desire my Estate shall not be appraised nor Inventoryed
Lastly I Nominate my trusty friend Mr. Baldwin Smith and Mr STockly Towles executors of this my last will and Testament
