Spotsylvania Will Book H:296-297, 5 July 1813
Know all men by these presents that we Martin Brent, George Bronaugh, Richard Stephens Edward Darnaby and Andrew Mitchell are held and firmly bound unto James Barbour Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia and to his successors for the use of the said Commonwealth in the sum of four thousand dollars to the payment whereof well and truly to be made We bind ourselves our heirs, Executors, and administrators Jointly and severally firmly by these presents sealed with our seals and dated this 5th day of July 1813
The condition of the above Obligation is such that whereas the above bound Martin Brent is appointed Inspector of Tobacco at Royston’s Warehouse in the County of Spotsylvania by a Commission under the hand and seal of the Governor of the said Commonwealth. Now of the said Martin Brent do and shall well and truly perform his said office according to the directions of the several ____ of assembly meeting the inspection of Tobacco. Then the above obligation to be void or else to remain in full force.
