Died
Hussey – In Union Township, Delaware County, Iowa, on Tuesday, April 29th, of paralysis, Mr. Asa Hussey, aged 72 years.
Mr. Hussey was born near Augusta, Maine in 1801, and removed with his father to Washington County, Ohio in 1820. In 1828 he married Mary Cunningham, who died in 1848, in Olive Township, Noble County, Ohio, leaving a family of seven children – 5 boys and 2 girls, all of whom are living. He came to Union Township, Delaware County, Iowa in 1858, where he bought and improved a farm. In 1860 he went to Saline County, Kansas, took a claim and in some degree improved it. While there he received a paralytic shock, and was sick for some time which was the primary cause of his decease. He lived with Chas. Hussey until 1867, when he returned to Uniontown and has since resided with his daughter, Mrs. J. S. Keith. Since the death of his wife he has remained single and lived with his children, acting towards them in the double capacity of father and mother. Mr. Hussey was a man of generous impulses and possessed a heart which warmed toward his fellow men. In his death his family has lost a kind and indulgent father and humanity a firm friend. He leaves five sons and two daughters to mourn: Samuel Hussey, Delhi; Simon Hussey, Joaquin, California; Susan Keith, Uniontown, Delaware Co., Iowa; Sally Taylor, Noble County, Ohio; Charles Hussy, Saline, Saline County, Kansas; Wm. Hussey, San Francisco, California; and David Hussey, Cherry Valley, Ill.
The funeral took place at Delhi yesterday and was attended by a large concourse of friends and neighbors. His remains were interred in the cemetery here.
