Herbert Lock(1914 - 2012)
Herbert F. Lock passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on March 26, 2012. He was born in Central City, Nebraska, on August 24, 1914, to Herbert and Georgia (Fouts) Lock.
He graduated from Central City High School in 1932. He attended Nebraska Central College for two years, and Van Zant School of Business, in Omaha, Nebraska, for one year. On October 16, 1936, he married his high school sweetheart, Dixie Davis, and they resided in Omaha, Nebraska, where he was employed.
In 1939, Herbert received a Civil Service appointment in Washington, D.C. Shortly after moving to Washington, D.C., he enrolled at Columbus University Law School, which he attended after working hours.
In 1943, he was called into military service and served in the Army for 3 years. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Army, in 1946, he completed his final two years at law school, graduating with an LL.B. Degree, and was admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia in, 1948, and was a member of the Federal Bar Association.
After 35 years, he retired in 1973 as Deputy Assistant General Counsel, with the General Accounting Office, two years of which he was assigned to the European Branch Office in Paris, France.
He pursued his avocation as a square dance caller, and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and camping. As a member of the Wally Bynam Airstream Caravan Club, he and his wife did extensive traveling throughout the States and Canada.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Palm Bay, Kensington Lodge #198 A.F. & A.M. in Kensington, Maryland, and the American Legion Post 00481, in Washington, D.C.
He is survived by his loving children, daughter, Susan Lock Conlon, and son, John R. Lock, both of Palm Bay, Florida; two grandchildren, Cassandra (Conlon) Fraser, and his namesake, Herbert A. Conlon; and six great-grandchildren. He was truly a special man and will be deeply and forever missed by his family and friends.
He was predeceased by his loving wife of 70 years, Dixie Davis Lock.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 4:00 pm, at the First Presbyterian Church of Palm Bay, 1080 Port Malabar Blvd., NE., Palm Bay, Florida, followed by Military Honors provided by the US Army.
