ZANESVILLE -James E. Tunis, 80, of Zanesville, died at 4:19 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at Genesis Bethesda Hospital.
He was born Aug. 7, 1924, in Zanesville, the son of the late Benjamin H. and Lyda Tanner Tunis.
Mr. Tunis was a retired farmer, a member of Farm Bureau, a past master of Irville Masonic Lodge No. 184 F&AM and all masonic bodies, a member of Richvale Grange and attended the Immanuel United Church of Christ. The Tunis family farm was designated as an Ohio Century farm by the Ohio Farm Bureau. The Columbus Dispatch also honored the Jim Tunis Family as the Muskingum County Farm Family of the Year. The Ohio Department of Agriculture recognized the Tunis Farm as the Ohio Outstanding Century Farm, Southeast Region.
He was a member of the First Family in Muskingum County and also a member of the Muskingum County Genealogy Society.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy E. Winters Tunis, whom he married Oct. 17, 1948, of the home; two daughters, Judith E. Morgan and Susan E. (Richard) Bunner, both of Zanesville; three grandchildren, Brent A. Morgan of Waldorf, Md., and Ryan S. Morgan and Jared M. Hindel, both of Zanesville.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert B. Tunis; and a grandson, Bryan James Hindel.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Bolin-Dierkes Funeral Home, 1271 Blue Ave., where Irville Masonic Lodge No. 184 F&AM will conduct services at 6 p.m.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2005, at the funeral home with the Rev. Sam Greening officiating. Burial will be in Zanesville Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Immanuel United Church of Christ.
