Mahala Ulis was born on 19 August 1855 in Ohio.1,2 She and John J. Housesberg were married on 17 September 1876 in Crawford County, Ohio.3 She died on 24 March 1906, at age 50, in Sycamore Township, Wyandot County, Ohio. She was buried in Benton Cemetery, Texas Township, Crawford County, Ohio.2
Mahala Ulis was also known as Mahala Eulis. This census lists a daughter Sarah born in 1889, but this is likely a census error. Daughter Lesta does not appear in this census, but would have been about 8 at the time. Daughter Sarah died in 1885.4 John and Mahala appeared on the 1880 US Census recorded on 1 June 1880 in Sycamore Township, Wyandot County, Ohio, with their daughter Della. Mahala was named as an heir in the will of Philip Ulis on 10 June 1889 in Chatfield Township, Crawford County, Ohio.5 Mahala was named as an heir in the will of Mary Smith on 1 November 1889 in Chatfield Township, Crawford County, Ohio.6
