He was a wagon maker in 1880.8 Charles and Emma appeared on the 1880 US Census recorded on 14 June 1880 in McConnelsville with their daughter Maude.9 Charles was chairman of the Morgan County Republican Central committee in 1897 in McConnelsville, Morgan County, Ohio.10 . He and Emma were on their way to Marietta when the flood of March 1898 occurred. Newton M. Brent was born about 23 September 1812 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.2,3,4 He and Hester Ann R. Hughes were married on 15 November 1834 in Morgan County, Ohio.5 He died on 9 August 1900 in Seattle, King County, Washington.6,7,8 He was buried in Lake View Cemetery (Seattle), King County, Washington.6,9
He was listed as a shoemaker on the 1850 through 1900 censuses.10,11,12,13,14,15 Newton was selected as sergeant at arms of the Ohio House in Columbus.16 Newton's father died about 1815 and his mother died. [PFS] father died about 1815 and his mother died about 181817,18 He and his siblings became wards of Thomas Proctor, husband of their sister Charlotte, on 7 September 1818 in Spotsylvania County, Virginia.1919 Newton was head of household on the 1840 US Census taken in Meigsville Township, Morgan County, Ohio. He enlisted as a private in Portage, Wood County, Ohio, on 6 August 186211,12 He served in Company A, 100th Ohio Volunteer Infantry beginning on 1 September 1862 in Toledo, Ohio.12 Samuel was captured at Limestone Station, Tennessee, on 8 September 186313,14 Samuel was a prisoner of war Belle Island, Richmond, Virginia, in October 186313,12,15 Samuel was released after eight months and was sent to a parole camp Columbus, Ohio, in May 186411 Samuel rejoined Company A, 100th O.V.I. at the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain, Cobb County, Georgia, on 27 June 186414,11 He and Catherine Scott resided in Portage Township, Wood County, Ohio, in 1865 on ten acres in section 3.
