Joseph moved to Crawford County, Pennsylvania where, according to the county history, he married twice and had twelve children ...3 He was Lutheran and a Democat ...4 He was baptized on 25 May 1800 in Zion Lutheran Church, East Huntington Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. with Ludwig and Catharina Kester as sponsors1 Joseph was head of household on the 1840 US Census taken in Venango Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania. The household consisted of two males 10 to 15, one male 40 to 50, three females 5 to 10, and one female 30 to 40.5 He was a farmer in 1850.6 Joseph and Susan appeared on the 1850 US Census recorded on 17 September 1850 in Venango Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, with Barbara, Sarah, Matilda, Lucinda, Hiram, Joseph, and Jacob.6 Joseph and Susan appeared on the 1870 US Census recorded on 22 June 1870 in Venango Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, with Matilda, Lewis, and William.7 Joseph and Susan appeared on the 1880 US Census recorded on 18 June 1880 in Venango, Crawford County, Pennsylvania.8
